| One of the Bay Area Blues Society's ongoing projects is the Russell City "The Town That Lost the Blues". As a historical event, the annual production of the Hayward - Russell City Blues Festival seeks to keep the blues alive in the community that once served as a vital contributor to the American blues scene and the formation of West Coast Blues. The Bay Area Blues Society and The City of Hayward Present the 8th Annual Hayward/Russell City Blues Festival scheduled for July 7 & 8, 2007 . This year’s theme “From Chicago to Russell City” will feature the world’s oldest blues piano player, Mr. Pinetop Perkins. He is widely recognized as the world’s best blues piano player. We will celebrate his 94th Birthday on July 7th at the Hayward-Russell City Blues Festival. Other special features for this From Chicago to Russell City include the Reunion of the “Billy Branch and Sons of the Blues” with Lurrie Bell and Carl Weathersby. This show will include the legendary John Primer, Eddie Shaw and Mr. Chicago, Taildragger. Other great top blues artists from the Windy City include Willie Big Eye Smith; Big Time Sarah; Nellie Tiger Travis; Vance Shaw; Doug McDonald (this will be his first visit to the bay area).
